Guest Author, Ann Braden , presents at Golden Dome Book Award Event

RNESU Students Celebrate Reading!

Every year the district librarians organize a celebration of the Vermont Golden Dome Book Award, the longest running student choice award in our country. Students who read at least 5 books on the Golden Dome nominee list are invited to attend the special event.

Nearly 100 students in grades 4th-8th from across RNESU were invited to meet author Ann Braden, who wrote two books that have been nominated for the Golden Dome book award: The Benefits of Being an Octopus and Flight of the Puffin. She shared about how she channeled her anger into writing, which brought her to a place of hope. Students had the opportunity to ask her questions.

As part of the event, the librarians ran a trivia contest consisting of two questions about each book on the 2021-2022 Golden Dome list.  Students who answered correctly won an autographed copy of one of Ann Braden's books. Students who did not win an autographed copy received a paperback copy of The Benefits of Being an Octopus.

At the end of trivia, we learned that Snapdragon, by Kat Leyh, received the most votes from RNESU students this year. We will all learn which book won the Golden Dome award in May.

One student in our district, Caledonia Gibbs of Neshobe, read all 25 nominated books this year!

If students who will be in 4th-8th grade next year would like to get started reading, the nominee list for next year has been released and can be seen here: https://libraries.vermont.gov/sites/libraries/files/Masterlist2022-2023.pdf You can get the books at your school or public library!
