November 5, 2021
Dear Neshobe Families,
Once again we extend our gratitude for your continued patience as we handle additional cases of COVID-19.
Some reminders of upcoming events and pertinent information:
Reminder that there will be no school on Thursday, November 11th.
Family Engagement Night: On Tuesday, December 7th, district technology integration coaches Max Burman and Susan Hennessey -- along with school librarian Hannah Fjeld -- will be hosting a technology night for us. This event will take place virtually from 6pm-7pm. They will be discussing digital citizenship -- both what students are learning in school, and how they can be supported at home. They will be covering topics such as: online safety; the impact of social media; living with technology; and, using technology for good. They will also cover district initiatives around technology. They are looking forward to working with you on technology and answering any questions that you might have.
Parent Teacher Conferences: Parent/teacher conferences are being held on the afternoons of Wednesday, November 10th and Monday, November 15th. Parents will have the option of in-person or virtual conferences. More information will be coming home next week about how this will work.
Fall is here! As the weather gets colder, please make sure children come dressed for the changing conditions and temperatures. This includes: long sleeves, sweaters or sweatshirts, jackets, boots, hats and mittens.
Morning Drop Off
The morning drop off protocol is to help ensure a safe, orderly arrival at school for walkers, riders and bus riders alike. As a staff we are constantly looking at ways to tweak the system to make it more efficient, but we know that this process takes time - so please plan ahead. In order to ensure the continued safety of all of our students, please:
Follow the traffic pattern
Be cautious when rounding the brick building as this is where our 3 and 4 years olds are dropped off
Ensure students are ready (backpack in hand, mask on, hats/coats/mittens on, etc.) to exit the car (on the passenger side) when you arrive at the drop-off point
Any vehicle that arrives after 8:00 am, must go to the front of the building for drop off and have students enter at the office. Students arriving after 8 will be marked as tardy.
Thank you in advance for keeping all of our students safe!
“Catch a Kid”
The 6th teachers are actively looking to catch students in a genuine act of kindness. Last week, they “caught” 47 individual Acts of Kindness and this week another 39 Acts of Kindness for a total of 86 in a two week period! Kudos to the 6th grade!
PTO
Fundraiser orders for Neshobe Wear and Halladay’s Harvest Barn have all been distributed to classrooms and should go home with students soon if they haven’t already! Thank you so much for your support with these fundraisers - combined they raised just over $2000! If you have any questions or if there are any problems with your order, please email the PTO directly at neshobepto@gmail.com
Our next meeting is Monday, November 8th at 6pm in the Neshobe Library — we hope to see you there!
News from our Classrooms and Integrated Arts:
Grade 5 -
5th grade students will be visiting the Moosamaloo program at Otter Valley on 11/15 and 11/16. The students at Otter Valley have been studying the Abenaki and have built an authentic long house. They have invited us to a traditional "Thanksgiving" experience at their long house to share what they have been learning about.
Ethan Nelson -
Two students learned how to do some basic repairs/maintenance on bikes. They changed a tire. They lubed a chain. They learned how to adjust a crescent wrench and remove 15mm bolts. Best of all, they co-operated, followed multi-step directions, and did an act of kindness for someone in our community who needed a bike repair.
Art -
Hello Families! Square 1 Art order forms should arrive at school and be sent home with students soon. A reminder that this year, unfortunately, due to a supply chain problem, Square 1 Art has let us know they will not provide free stickers with student’s order forms. This is a big disappointment but I want to thank students and parents in advance for their understanding. In art room news we have some great work happening in the upper grades. Students in Grades 4-6 are working in the drawing, collage, painting, and clay centers. Students choose which center they would like to work in and what they would like to make. They have a lot of creative freedom but encounter many problem-solving challenges with supplies, techniques, generating ideas, and more. Below is a picture of two sixth grade students, Natalia Grenier and Eli Larocque, with a painting that they created together. In order to create this painting they had to work through many creative challenges but, thankfully, they stuck with it and persevered to create this awesome painting which they can now share with their classmates and community. - Mr. B
